5 killed as boat capsizes in Sunamganj
Two women and three children were killed as a boat capsized in Jamalganj upazila of Sunamganj district yesterday (29 March).
The incident took place at around 10pm in the Boulai River of Beheli union of the upazila, Jamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Saiful Islam told The Business Standard.
Three of the deceased have been identified so far. They are: Beauty Chakraborty, 50, Kalpana Sarkar, 45, and Ganga Sarkar, 5.

According to police and locals, the engine-powered boat was traveling from Madhyanagar upazila of Sunamganj to Madnakanda village of Beheli union of Jamalganj upazila. There were extra passengers on the boat due to Eid.
"There were 50-60 passengers on the boat as well as goods. The boat sank in the Noapara area near Madnakanda-Durgapur. While the passengers swam to the shore, five people drowned," said local Union Parishad member Debashish Talukder, an eyewitness to the incident.
