A total of 30 Rohingyas, including women and children, who allegedly fled from the Bhasan Char rehabilitation center in Noakhali by boat, were detained by locals upon reaching the coastal area of Sitakunda in Chattogram.

The group was apprehended around 12:30pm today (12 May) at the Bhatiari coast, Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozibur Rahman confirmed to The Business Standard.

"Locals became suspicious upon hearing them speak and contacted law enforcement. Upon receiving information from locals, police detained the Rohingyas who had reportedly arrived via trawler with the help of brokers," the OC said.
