3-day exhibition ‘July Revolution on Camera’ begins at Chattogram Press Club

Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain has said martyr Abu Sayed's image will continue to serve as a reminder of the nation's history.
"We often call it the 36-day revolution of July-August. But what happened during this time – abductions, murders, extrajudicial killings – isn't limited to these few days. It represents the legacy of 16 years of repression. Forgetting the martyrs of that time would be an injustice to their sacrifice," he said while addressing the opening ceremony of a three-day photo exhibition titled 'July Revolution on Camera', held on Saturday (2 August) at 11 am in the VIP Lounge of the Chattogram Press Club.
The exhibition showcases nearly 160 photographs taken in Dhaka and Chattogram. These powerful visuals portray the political unrest, disappearances, killings, and various forms of persecution that occurred during July and August.
Speaking as special guest, Bangladesh Photojournalist Association President AKM Mohsin said, "We hold deep respect for those who were martyred in the struggle to establish democracy.
"Over the past 15 and a half years, many have lost their lives to abductions, killings, and political repression. The July Revolution was a loud cry of protest against that injustice."
He further said, "We have freed 80 individuals from fascist control at the National Press Club. I don't know how many have been freed from the Chattogram Press Club. If we cannot remove fascist influence, then the blood of the martyrs will be in vain."
The discussion was presided over by Jahidul Karim Kochi, member secretary of the interim committee of the Chattogram Press Club. Mohammad Hossain, convener of the exhibition, moderated the event.
Others who spoke at the ceremony included BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's personal photographer Nuruddin Ahmed; former President of the Photojournalist Association Bulbul Ahmed; editor of The People's View Osman Gani Mansur; Kaler Kantho Bureau Chief Mustafa Nayem; NTV Bureau Chief Shamsul Haque Hydari; the association's General Secretary Babul Talukder; General Secretary of the Chattogram Metropolitan Journalists Union Saleh Noman; Press Club member Mia Mohammad Arif; and President of the Chattogram Photojournalists Association Md. Mostafizur Rahman.
