Police also arrested 21 of the accused from the spot during the clash. At least eight policemen were injured during the clash, the OC added.

Before the clash, the Hefazat activists were trying to block the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway as part of their scheduled programme on Friday afternoon.

The leaders and activists carried out an attack on police personnel when the police reached the spot, triggering a clash. The clash left some 15 people injured, including policemen.
