26,000 tonnes of octane from Malaysia set to reach Ctg Port today
This marks the third octane shipment to arrive in April.
A Hong Kong-flagged vessel carrying 26,000 tonnes of octane from Malaysia is expected to arrive at Chattogram Port this morning (30 April).
The vessel, Qiu Hci, was scheduled to reach the outer anchorage around 8pm yesterday (29 April), according to its local agent, Pride Shipping Line.
However, due to bad weather, it is now arriving this morning, the agent said.
This marks the third octane shipment to arrive in April. Earlier, two vessels brought 26,000 tonnes on 8 April and 27,000 tonnes on 17 April.
With a daily demand of around 1,250 tonnes, the 79,000 tonnes imported this month is expected to meet demand for more than two months.
Nazrul Islam, managing partner of Pride Shipping Line, told The Business Standard that five vessels had already been waiting at the outer anchorage.
"Three vessels berthed yesterday (Tuesday) and began discharging fuel. Two more vessels joined the queue, and another one carrying octane from Malaysia will arrive," he said.
He said the port has only three dolphin jetties, making it impossible to berth all vessels at once.
"Additionally, due to the arrival of several large tankers last week, cargo had to be lightered using smaller vessels. Unfavourable weather has also slowed unloading operations," he added.
On Tuesday, a Hong Kong-flagged vessel, Gran Couva, arrived at Chattogram Port around 3pm carrying 34,000 tonnes of diesel from India.
Later, at around 11pm, a Singapore-flagged vessel, Hafnia Marlin, arrived with 10,000 tonnes of diesel from China.
