2 killed, 3 injured while making bombs in Chapainawabganj
Identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
Two people were killed and three others injured in an explosion while they were allegedly manufacturing bombs in the Fatapara area of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila early this morning (14 February).
The incident occurred at around 5am at a house in Fatapara village of Charbagdanga union, confirmed NM Wasim Firoz, additional superintendent of police in Chapainawabganj.
The injured are Bazlur Rahman, son of Nazrul Islam; Minhaj, son of Jenarul Islam, both residents of Fatapara; and Shuvo, 20, son of Rofizul Islam from Ranihati union's Uperdhumi area of the same upazila.
The Business Standard could not yet confirm any political affiliations of the group.
According to the police, the group was assembling bombs inside the house at night when one of the explosive devices went off. The blast killed two individuals on the spot, though their identities have not yet been officially confirmed.
The injured were initially rushed to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital.
Due to their critical condition, with two of the victims suffering life-threatening burns over most of their bodies, they were later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for advanced treatment.
Police and fire service personnel are currently conducting a search and rescue operation at the site.
Additional SP Wasim noted that the intensity of the blast blew off the tin roof and partially collapsed the walls of the structure.
