According to a press release from RAB-7 this afternoon (18 February), an operational team conducted a drive around 5:40pm yesterday in a multi-storey building at Arefin Nagar on Bayezid Link Road under Bayezid Bostami police station.
The arrestees are Imtiaz Sultan Ikram, 28, also known as Sultan Ikram, a resident of Muradpur, and his associate Abul Kalam Azad, 62, from Bibirhat area under Panchlaish police station in Chattogram.
RAB said the team recovered two foreign pistols and 56 rounds of bullets from their possession during the operation.
Based on local sources and preliminary interrogation, RAB described Ikram as a known figure in Chattogram's criminal network. He was reportedly a close associate of slain criminal Sarwar Babla and alleged criminals known as Maxon and Firoz. Babla was killed in a shooting incident on 5 November 2025 in the Bayezid Bostami area during a public campaign of BNP-nominated candidate for Chattogram-8 constituency, Ershad Ullah.
RAB officials also alleged that Ikram had stayed in the Middle East for a long period and used internet-based calls through WhatsApp and Messenger, along with foreign numbers, to demand large sums of extortion from businesspeople in Bayezid Bostami, Oxygen and Muradpur areas. He was also accused of previously operating a teenage gang group known as "Rich Kids" and frequently travelling in and out of the country using concealed identities.
Abul Kalam Azad was described as Ikram's close aide. RAB claimed he collected extortion money on Ikram's behalf and worked as his personal driver.
A review of the Criminal Data Management System (CDMS) shows that multiple cases — including those related to arms, murder, attempted murder, sabotage and extortion — are pending against Ikram at different police stations in Chattogram district and metropolitan area, RAB said.
Legal steps against the arrestees are under process, the elite force added.
