167 more Bangladeshi citizens return from Libya
Among the 167 people, 16 were repatriated from Benghazi and adjacent areas, where 151 people were rescued from Ganfuda Detention Centre

A total of 167 Bangladeshi citizens have returned home from Libya with the help of the foreign ministry, Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
A chartered flight of Buraq Air brought back the 167 people at 5am today (11 April), according to a press release issued.
Among the 167 people, 16 were repatriated from Benghazi and adjacent areas, where 151 people were rescued from Ganfuda Detention Centre.
Officials from foreign ministry, expatriates' welfare and overseas employment ministry, and IOM greeted the returnees at the airport, said the release.
According to the release, the returnees had infiltrated Libya while illegally going to Europe by crossing the sea with the help and incitement of human traffickers.
Most of the returnees were abducted and tortured during their detention, the release added.
While greeting the returnees, the foreign ministry officials urged everyone not to make such risky attempts to reach Libya again.
Meanwhile, IOM has provided Tk6,000 as cash along with food, treatment and temporary residence to the returnees.
The foreign ministry, expatriates' welfare and overseas employment ministry, Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, and IOM are working tirelessly to rescue the remaining Bangladeshi people from detention centres and bring them back to Bangladesh, the release further said.
