16 shops gutted in Gazipur market fire

At least 16 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at a kitchen market in Konabari area of Gazipur early today (7 July).
Station Officer of Konabari Fire Station Saiful Islam said the fire erupted at around 5:30am at Konabari kitchen market and it spread rapidly, engulfing nearby shops.
"We suspect the fire originated from an electrical short circuit. The exact extent of the damage will be confirmed following a detailed investigation," he added.
Upon receiving the news, four fire service units from Konabari and surrounding stations rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control after two and a half hours of joint efforts.
However, no casualties were reported during the accident.
Preliminary estimates suggest that extent of loss would be Tk25 lakh while fire service personnel managed to save goods worth approximately Tk5 crore, said the fire service official.
