14-yr-old detained from Dhanmondi-32 over suspected Chhatra League ties freed after hours
At first, he identified himself as a Chhatra Dal activist, then later claimed to be from Chhatra Shibir.
The 14-year-old boy who was detained earlier today (13 November) from the capital's Dhanmondi-32 area over suspected ties to the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League has been released after several hours of detention.
Shah Mostafa Tariquzzaman, assistant commissioner of police (Dhanmondi zone) confirmed this to The Business Standard.
The incident took place around 10:15am and the boy was detained for clarification, according to police.
The boy lives in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh. At the scene, he was wearing a pant-coat and tie and carrying a bag.
According to Tariquzzaman, the boy was initially suspected of being a member of Chhatra League. At first, he identified himself as a Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal activist, then later claimed to be from Islami Chhatra Shibir, said the assistant commissioner.
Police found evidence suggesting he belongs to Chhatra League, which led to his detention, he added.
After being detained, the boy was taken away in a police van.
