13 killed as bus crashes into microbus carrying wedding party in Khulna

Thirteen people were killed when a bus collided head-on with a microbus carrying a wedding party in Khulna's Bagerhat this afternoon (12 March).
The accident occurred around 4pm on the Khulna-Mongla Highway near the Belai Bridge area of Rampal upazila.
The deceased were identified as Abdur Razzak, president of the BNP's 8th ward unit in Mongla municipality, along with his wife, three sons, two daughters, four grandchildren, the bride Marzia Akter Mitu and another relative, as well as the microbus driver.
Confirming the matter, Rampal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdullah Al Mamun said, "Abdur Razzak was returning home with the wedding party after his son's marriage ceremony in Koyra when the microbus collided head-on with a speedy navy staff bus coming from the opposite direction."
"The impact severely damaged the front portions of both vehicles, killing several passengers on the spot and injuring at least 14 passengers of the navy staff bus, who were taken to different hospitals for treatment," he added.
The OC further said, "Among the victims, four died at Rampal Upazila Health Complex and nine at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH). One injured person remains in critical condition and has been admitted to KMCH."
Katakhali Highway Police Station Sub-inspector (SI) KM Hasanuzzaman said, "Police rushed to the scene after being informed and rescued the dead bodies."
