Leaders of the 12-party alliance have called on the government to immediately declare a specific election date and ensure a smooth transition of power to an elected government.

Addressing a protest rally in front of the National Press Club today (9 January), Mostafa Jamal Hayder, chairman of the National Party and head of the alliance, said, "The interim government is incapable of resolving any issues or implementing reforms. Leave with dignity by transferring power to an elected government."

The demonstration was organised to demand the declaration of an election roadmap, the arrest, and trial of "fascist allies" of the government, and justice for political and administrative misconduct.

Criticising the government's proposed gas price hike, Hayder warned, "Increasing gas prices will destroy the industrial sector and spark unrest among workers. Avoid decisions that fuel public dissatisfaction."

Referring to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's health, he added, "We pray for her recovery and safe return. Any conspiracy to sideline her will not be tolerated by the nation's youth and citizens."

Shahadat Hossain Selim, another leader of the alliance, urged the government to announce elections by June 2025, saying, "Your inability to maintain order in law enforcement and essential markets has already forced us to mobilise. Announce a roadmap soon, or we will take to the streets with our experience."

Golam Muhiuddin Ikram echoed these sentiments, stating, "Stop creating diversions. Implement the 31-point reforms proposed by the BNP and fulfil public aspirations. Otherwise, learn from the fate of past regimes."
