Ten leaders and activists of Awami League and its banned student wing Chhatra League (BCL) were arrested in separate drives in the capital today and yesterday over their alleged attempt to bring out surprise processions across the capital.

The arrestees are: Sabbir Ahmad Nirjhar, 28, Kamrul Ahsan Nishad, 28, Ibrahim Khalil alias Kalu, 25, Shakil Hossain alias Jibon, 30, Ohid M R Rahman, 50, Shamim Shahriar, 58, Ilias Kanchan, 64, Mohammad Hossain Masum, 58, Habibul Hasan Ratan, 34, and Robin Dewan, 29.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Mohammad Talebur Rahman said the arrestees were attempting to "destabilise" the country through bringing out sudden processions, creating panic among people.
