No scope for 'election engineering' this time, warns Fakhrul
Fakhrul said BNP has always accepted election results, citing 2008 when it won only 30 seats and expressed optimism about securing a majority this time
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today (10 February) said there is no scope for "election engineering" as government officials are expected to ensure free, fair and credible voting.
Speaking at his Thakurgaon residence, he expressed hope that the 12 February election would be neutral and help restore people's voting rights after 16 years of BNP's democratic movement.
Fakhrul said BNP has always accepted election results, citing 2008 when it won only 30 seats and expressed optimism about securing a majority this time.
Referring to BNP's rivals, including Jamaat, Fakhrul said Jamaat is a very strategic party and often engages in propaganda using religion.
"They are trying to spread disinformation through various campaigns."
BNP believes in positive and constructive politics and never underestimates its opponents, regardless of who they are, he added.
