Metrorail to stay operational on polls day, DMTCL director tells BBC Bangla
The DMTCL official noted that specific station gates situated in close proximity to polling centres may be temporarily closed for security reasons.
The Metrorail will remain operational during the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and referendum, even as strict restrictions are imposed on most other forms of vehicular movement.
AKM Khairul Alam, director (Administration) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), confirmed the decision to BBC Bangla.
He stated, "Metrorail will operate as it does on a normal working day to make it easier for people to cast their votes and travel across the city."
While the service remains open, the DMTCL official noted that specific station gates situated in close proximity to polling centres may be temporarily closed for security reasons.
All other gates, however, will remain accessible to the public.
To ensure uninterrupted service, DMTCL has cancelled the leaves of all relevant officials and staff during the election period, the director added.
The Election Commission (EC), on 2 February, imposed restrictions on taxis, pickups, microbuses, and trucks from 12am on 11 February to 12am on 12 February.
Motorcycles will also face restrictions from 12am on 10 February to 12am on 13 February 2026.
The restrictions will be relaxed for the following vehicles: law enforcement and armed forces; administration and approved observers; vehicles engaged in emergency services or carrying medicines, health-related supplies, and newspapers; vehicles transporting passengers or relatives to and from airports (with tickets or relevant proof); long-distance passenger vehicles; one vehicle per contesting candidate and one for each candidate's election agent (with proper appointment and identity documents, and Election Commission sticker); journalists, observers, or vehicles used for election work with EC approval; motorcycles used by officials, employees, or others for election duties; and vehicles of telecom operators licensed by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
