Kushtia-1: BNP leader detained for campaigning inside polling centre
The executive magistrate said campaigning inside a polling centre breaches the electoral code of conduct.
A mobile court detained local BNP leader Amjad Hossain in the Kushtia-1 (Daulatpur) constituency for directly soliciting votes from voters inside a polling centre this morning (12 February).
Law enforcement personnel intervened promptly upon noticing the incident.
Amjad, president of the Hogolbaria Union unit of BNP, was taken into custody at around 9:30am inside Gachir Diar Government Primary School polling centre in Hogolbaria Union, Daulatpur Upazila.
Abu Salem Md Nasim, the executive magistrate in charge of the centre, confirmed the incident, saying that campaigning inside a polling centre constitutes a breach of the election code of conduct.
He was subsequently handed over to a judicial magistrate.
Anindya Guha, upazila returning officer and executive officer, confirmed that Hossain remains in judicial custody and that legal proceedings are ongoing.
Meanwhile, Arifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station, said Hossain is currently under police custody and preparations are underway to take the necessary legal measures.
