Jamaat wins three constituencies in Kushtia, BNP secures one
The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has won three out of four constituencies in Kushtia district, while the BNP has secured one, according to the unofficial results.
In Kushtia-1 (Daulatpur), BNP candidate Reza Ahmed, popularly known as Bacchu Molla, won with 1,65,085 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat candidate Belal Uddin, received 85,085 votes. Reza Ahmed had previously been elected as an MP.
In Kushtia-2 (Mirpur-Bheramara), Jamaat candidate Md Abdul Gafur defeated BNP's Ragib Rauf Chowdhury by a margin of 46,534 votes, according to unofficial results from 170 polling centres.
Abdul Gafur secured 1,89,816 votes, while Ragib Chowdhury got 1,43,282 votes. Gafur earlier served as the chairman of Mirpur upazila.
In Kushtia-3 (Sadar), Jamaat's Mufti Amir Hamza maintained a clear lead in the unofficial count.
Results from 136 of 142 centres showed him obtaining 1,70,063 votes, ahead of BNP candidate Engineer Md Zakir Hossain Sarker, who bagged 1,19,137 votes. The constituency has 4,40,842 registered voters.
In Kushtia-4 (Kumarkhali-Khoksa), Jamaat candidate Md Afzal Hossain was unofficially declared elected with 1,46,204 votes from 152 centres. His closest rival, BNP's Syed Mehdi Ahmed Rumi, secured 1,38,574 votes, trailing by 7,630 votes.
