EU election observers meet Jamaat ameer ahead of 13th parliamentary polls
The EU delegation assured that a 200-member EU observer team would be deployed to monitor Bangladesh’s forthcoming national election.
A high-level delegation of the European Union Election Observation Mission paid a courtesy call on Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today (10 February) at the party's central office in Dhaka.
A 15-member EU delegation led by Chief Observer and European Parliament member Evarz Izabs held a cordial meeting at around 11am.
During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and the European Union, with particular emphasis on ensuring that the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election is free, fair and credible.
They also expressed agreement on the need to further strengthen Bangladesh's constitutional and democratic institutions to make them more sustainable. The EU delegation assured that a 200-member EU observer team would be deployed to monitor Bangladesh's forthcoming national election.
Several senior Jamaat leaders and advisers were present at the meeting.
