Chattogram-4: EC suspends publication of Aslam Chowdhury’s result
The directive was issued on 12 February in an order signed by Md Shahidul Islam, senior assistant secretary (Election Support-1).
The Election Commission (EC) has decided to suspend the publication of the election result of BNP candidate Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury in the Chattogram-4 constituency, pending the final disposal of a case before the Appellate Division.
The directive was issued on 12 February in an order signed by Md Shahidul Islam, senior assistant secretary (Election Support-1).
According to the order, the votes cast in favour of Aslam Chowdhury will be counted as usual, but his result will not be published. However, the vote tallies of the other candidates in the constituency will be announced.
The order states that, in light of the Appellate Division's order dated 3 February, Aslam Chowdhury has been allowed to contest the 13th parliamentary election as a candidate in Constituency 281 (Chattogram-4).
However, due to a legal obligation, until the case is finally disposed of, the EC has decided to suspend publication of the election result and instructed the authorities concerned to take necessary steps accordingly, it added.
