BNP's Nazrul Islam urges EC vigilance amid reports of electoral violations
He pointed to reports of unethical practices ahead of the polls, including allegations of voter bribery, and said the EC has been urged to take action
BNP Standing Committee member and Election Management Committee chairman Nazrul Islam Khan today (10 February) met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin and called on the commission to exercise strict vigilance to ensure a free and fair election.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Nazrul said creating a fair voting environment and monitoring irregularities fall squarely within the Election Commission's responsibility.
He pointed to reports of unethical practices ahead of the polls, including allegations of voter bribery, and said the EC has been urged to take action.
The BNP leader also referred to media reports of counterfeit ballot papers being printed and the seizure of related equipment, raising questions over enforcement.
"Since law enforcement agencies are now operating under the Election Commission, why were these incidents not detected earlier?" he asked.
Addressing concerns over possible electoral disruption, Nazrul said no such situation has emerged so far and expressed optimism that the election would proceed smoothly.
"All parties participating in the polls want a fair vote, and we expect a decisive verdict from the electorate," he said.
