Seven years of TBS Online: Through history, headlines, and change

Seven years ago, on this day in 2019, The Business Standard began its journey online with a simple belief: news should reach people where they are, when it matters most.

Today, as TBS Online marks its seventh anniversary, we pause for a moment, not just to count the years, but to remember the journey.

Because these seven years have never been just about us. They have been about you, our readers, who have opened our stories during moments of uncertainty and celebration; who have followed a breaking development late at night, returned for the latest update in the morning, debated our reports, pointed out our mistakes and, above all, placed your trust in us.

That trust has carried us through seven extraordinary years.

The past year alone was a reminder of how quickly history can move.

Over the past year, Bangladesh went through another period of profound change.

Politics remained at the centre of national life, with the country's transition entering a decisive phase.

We covered the signing of the July National Charter, the debate and preparations surrounding constitutional reform and the referendum, and the road towards the 13th national election.

We reported as old political certainties gave way to new realities.

The death of former prime minister Khaleda Zia on 30 December 2025 marked the end of an era, while Sheikh Hasina remained in India following her ouster through the 2024 July Uprising.

As the country moved towards a new election, Bangladesh found itself facing a political transition unlike any in decades.

We covered the return of Tarique Rahman, the changing political landscape, the BNP's landslide victory in the election and formation of a new government with Tarique as the prime minister, and the events that followed as Bangladesh entered a new chapter.

We also followed the formation and evolution of new political forces and the dramatic shifts in student politics on public university campuses.

And when Bangladesh marked the second anniversary of the July Uprising this August, TBS was there to document the commemorations, the memories, and the continuing debates over the legacy of one of the most consequential movements in the country's recent history.

Over the past year, around 22 million active users engaged with our stories.

And, between August 2019 and August 2026, we have recorded more than 290 million views in seven years, a testament to the growing bond we share with our readers and the confidence you continue to place in us.

Over the years, TBS has also continued to evolve with the way you consume news.
