A fire broke out at a plastic warehouse in Mirsarai, Chattogram yesterday (11 November), destroying a large quantity of plastic bags and other materials.
The warehouse owner, Md Selim Uddin, estimated the losses at around Tk50 lakh.
The incident occurred around 11:45am in the Chairman Road area of Jorarganj Union, beside the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. Two units of the Baraiyarhat Fire Service rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes.
Locals said used plastic bags from the nearby BSRM factory were stored there for resale. The closed warehouse quickly went up in flames, though no one was injured.
Eyewitness Ariful Islam Emon said he saw the fire from a distance and immediately rushed to the spot.
"I disconnected the power supply and called 999. The fire service arrived quickly and doused the flames, but by then everything had already burned," he said.
Selim said, "When I arrived, the warehouse was already on fire. The fire service helped extinguish it after breaking open the lock. Goods worth around Tk50 lakh were destroyed."
Baraiyarhat Fire Service Station Officer Zainal Abedin Titas said the cause of the fire could not be determined immediately.
"We managed to control the blaze quickly after reaching the site," he added.
