Once homeless, Tyler Perry, is now titled a billionaire by Forbes

Tyler Perry is America's newest billionaire and from the entertainment industry of all places. The African American actor, writer, and director's journey continue to inspire many.

Raised in poverty, Perry, had to drop out of high school. And after that, he was homeless for some time, as he struggled to find his footing as a playwright.

Tyler Perry's plays gradually turned him into the media mogul he is now. The landmark achievement in it is the fact that he is the first African American to independently own a studio.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Tyler delved deep into his humble start in New Orleans, "I love when people say you come from 'humble beginnings, [It] means you were poor as hell."

And it's not just that, he had a rough childhood, reportedly, Perry even attempted suicide to escape his father's physical abuse.

Perry's troubles didn't end there, as a child, he was molested several times, the trauma of it all can be felt in his plays that have made him a billionaire now.

Perry has created films, wrote plays, and even acted in some. The multi-talented man has gradually become an inspiration for many.

While speaking of his success in business, "I own the lights. I own the sets," he told Forbes. "So that's where the difference is. Because I own everything, my returns are higher."

Amidst constant claims of lack of diversity in the entertainment front, Tyler Perry is an individual who represents hope for the African American community
