Five, including three of a family, killed in Gazipur road collision

According to locals, the autorickshaw, carrying five passengers, was travelling from Maona in Sreepur upazila towards Kaliakair when it collided with a speeding covered van coming from the opposite direction on the Fulbaria–Maona regional road.

Five people, including three members of the same family, were killed in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-run autorickshaw in the Borochala area of Kaliakair upazila, Gazipur, today (18 July) at noon.

The deceased have been identified as Bogura's Dhunat upazila's Md Zahidul Islam, 35; his wife Nasrin Akter, 30; and their son Md Huraira, 12; Gazipur's Sreepur upazila's Shafikul Islam, 55; and the autorickshaw driver Muktar Hossain, 60.

According to locals, the autorickshaw, carrying five passengers, was travelling from Maona in Sreepur upazila towards Kaliakair when it collided with a speeding covered van coming from the opposite direction on the Fulbaria–Maona regional road.

The autorickshaw was severely damaged. Zahidul and his son died on the spot, while his wife and the remaining passengers sustained critical injuries.

They were rushed to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where Zahidul's wife was declared dead on arrival. The autorickshaw driver and another injured passenger died later while receiving treatment.

Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Mannan said, "The covered van has been seized, but the driver managed to flee. Legal action is underway.
