Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 13-year-old madrasah student in the Kaundia area of the capital's Savar.

"The arrested teenager [main accused] was sent to court on Wednesday morning following his arrest," Savar Model Police Station Inspector (operations) Md Helal Uddin told The Business Standard.

The officer said, "Since the victim was not with the plaintiff [her mother] for two days, we are investigating the matter, and more details will be known after the probe."

Earlier 15 July night, the mother of the victim filed a case with the police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming the arrested teenager, another female teenager, and two adults (Rakib, 25, and Ashiq, 20), along with 1-2 unnamed individuals.

According to the case document, on 13 July, around 7am, the victim was called out of her home by the female accused, whom she had previously known. Subsequently, on 15 July morning, the victim's mother learned through someone that her daughter's dead body was lying on a bed in a house in the Kaundia Baksatra area.

Upon receiving the news, the victim's mother rushed to the scene and found her daughter lying in a bloody and unconscious state. With the help of locals, she rescued her daughter and took her to a local hospital, where doctors declared the teenager dead.

Later, upon receiving information, the police recovered the girl's body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital for autopsy.

The case document alleges that, apart from the accused female teenager, the other accused gang-raped and then murdered the victim.
