British Council celebrates young artists with colours of the world competition
The British Council recently hosted its annual Young Learner Art Competition at its centre on Fuller Road in Dhaka, bringing together children aged 7 to 17 to celebrate creativity, cultural awareness, and the richness of global diversity.
The theme for this year's competition—Colours of the World—encouraged young learners to explore ideas of diversity and cultural harmony through visual storytelling. Organised across four age categories—Lower Primary (8 and under), Upper Primary (9–11 years), Secondary (12–15 years), and Upper Secondary (16+ years)—the initiative provided a platform for children to express their unique perspectives.
Teachers at the British Council supported students in developing creative skills through specially designed lessons, helping them explore various artistic media. Their submissions were displayed during a week-long art exhibition at the centre, which drew enthusiastic participation from students, parents, guardians, and staff.
A panel of judges selected winners and runners-up in each category, and all participating students received certificates of recognition. The winning artworks from Bangladesh will be entered into the British Council's regional competition to be held in October.
Stephen Forbes, Country Director of the British Council in Bangladesh, attended the award-giving ceremony on August 1. "We are delighted to host this art competition for children who have displayed a wonderful spark of imagination and creativity through their artwork themed Colours of the World," he said. "At the British Council, we provide a fun learning environment to help young learners become confident, happy, and skilled global leaders of the future."
He also visited classrooms, interacted with the students, and spoke with parents and guardians during the event.
The art competition is part of the British Council's wider commitment to making English language learning enjoyable, relevant, and inspiring for young people. Its English courses, led by Cambridge-certified expert teachers, focus on developing creativity, communication skills, and confidence—both inside and beyond the classroom.
With 90 years of global engagement, the British Council builds connections and fosters mutual understanding through education, arts, language, and culture, empowering learners to grow academically, professionally, and personally.
