NID corrections on 7 issues to remain suspended for voter list finalisation: EC
The Election Commission (EC) will not accept applications to correct seven types of information, including a voter's own name, on the National Identity Card (NID) as the work of finalising the voter list for the upcoming national election and the referendum is underway.
The other six items are father's name, mother's name, occupation, date of birth, voter's address, and photograph.
Speaking to reporters at the EC headquarters in Dhaka's Agargaon today (1 December), EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said, "We had suspended NID corrections earlier. Now, corrections for several issues will remain suspended because we are finalising the voter list."
"After we finalise the voter list, the commission will decide whether these seven correction categories can be reopened," he added.
Akhtar said at this moment, corrections for the following information are allowed: spouse's name, marital status, educational qualification, religion, type of disability, other addresses except voter address information, telephone number, mobile number and so on.
He added that new NID registration process remains active and will continue.
There is no restriction on new NID registrations, he said.
