CA Yunus to address nation tomorrow amid growing political tension on polls, referendum
His speech will be broadcast live on BTV, BTV News, and BTV World
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will address the nation tomorrow afternoon (13 November), amid a growing tension among the political parties over the upcoming national election, the legal status of the July Charter and the proposed referendum.
His speech will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television (BTV), BTV News, and BTV World, according to a statement from the CA's Press Wing.
Tomorrow morning, the Advisory Council will hold its regular weekly meeting, with the July Charter's implementation topping the agenda, sources said.
Yunus is expected to speak about the implementation of the July Charter and referendum in his address to the nation, according to sources.
BNP's actions over July Charter implementation 'completely undesirable': Jamaat's Taher
The charter, which includes plans for a referendum and the issuance of the July Order, has recently become a point of contention among political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
The BNP is pressing for the referendum to be held on the same day as the upcoming national election, while Jamaat has demanded that it take place earlier.
Additionally, the BNP has called for the implementation of the July Charter signed by all political parties, whereas Jamaat insists on enforcing the recommendations made by the National Consensus Commission.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque warned that his party will block any move on Bangladesh's soil until the July Charter is legally implemented and ratified by a national referendum.
In a fresh escalation, Jamaat‑e‑Islami and its seven allied parties have warned of an indefinite sit‑in outside the chief adviser's residence at Jamuna from 16 November if their five‑point demands, including immediate implementation of the charter and holding the referendum before the polls, are not met.
After the previous Advisory Council meeting on 3 November, the interim government had given the political parties seven days to reach a consensus on the issue.
However, as the parties failed to do so, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has said the government would now take the decision on its own.
Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul yesterday (11 November) said a final decision regarding the July Charter is expected within the next two to three days.
The Election Commission is set to begin a series of dialogues with registered political parties from tomorrow, ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.
