Ansar-VDP delivers 500 blankets to Korail fire victims
The devastating fire that swept through the Korail slum in Mohakhali on 25 November left hundreds of families homeless within moments, plunging them into severe humanitarian distress.
With the worsening situation and intensifying winter cold, the suffering of the affected people increased further. In response, Ansar and the Village Defence Party moved swiftly and distributed five hundred blankets among the victims today, 29 November, providing immediate warmth and relief.
Saifullah Russel, Deputy Director General (Operations) of Ansar–VDP, attended the programme as chief guest at the Gulshan T&T Ground and handed blankets to the affected families. He said:
"The objective of today's blanket distribution is to ease the suffering of those who lost everything in the fire and are now facing the harsh winter. We believe such humanitarian initiatives spread a message of solidarity and compassion within society."
Earlier, on 28 November, an emergency humanitarian service centre was set up inside the Korail slum on the instruction of Director General, Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud. The centre was inaugurated and is being supervised by Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar Director, Md Asaduzzaman Gani. Since yesterday, the centre has been distributing meals twice a day to around two thousand people for five days, ensuring immediate support for affected families.
Regarding the continuation of humanitarian assistance, the Director General said:
"Every winter, many families suffer due to a lack of adequate warm clothing. Standing beside people in crisis is our moral duty. We hope today's blanket distribution brings at least some comfort to their lives."
Affected families expressed relief after receiving blankets and food support. The rapid humanitarian response has been particularly meaningful for children, women, and the elderly. Localised, coordinated relief efforts are playing a key role in post-fire rehabilitation in the area.
Ansar–VDP stated that standing by people in their most difficult moments is a permanent commitment of the force, and humanitarian support will continue in any future crisis.
